Ashley Karno · The artist
I begin every
painting
with light.
Contemporary figurative painter. Louisiana roots. A studio in Pensacola, Florida.
What began as a private act of healing became a serious artistic practice: figures emerging through metallic light and matte-black shadow.

The art of light in reverse.
01
Place the light.
Metallic gold, bronze, pearl, silver, or luminous color establishes what must remain visible.
02
Build the shadow.
Brushes begin the structure; fingers soften the edges and shape darkness around the light.
03
Reveal the figure.
The body appears through contrast, never fully exposed and never completely erased.
“I don’t paint women waiting to be rescued. I paint the moment they realize they survived.”
